Relay For Life to help fund the fight against cancer with the Coastal Humanists
The American Cancer Society will be bringing Relay For Life back to Coastal's campus this year through Colleges Against Cancer. Coastal Humanists will participate for the first time as they will be represented by the Flying Spaghetti Monster in this year's Superhero theme. Each organization on campus will raise funds for the fight against cancer with a superhero of their choice. Come out April 4th at 7pm to experience this 12-hour event on the campus' track by Brittain Hall and right down the street from the HTC Center and post office. Bring some cash and something warm to wear because the energy around the track will keep you from leaving. Come visit the Coastal Humanists tent where we will be selling warm spaghetti with your choice of savory sauces. We will be raffling off a Super Spring Prize Basket that night and there will be personalized club merchandise available as well.
Please help us reach our goal of one-thousand dollars by the night of Relay For Life!
Visit our team's page at: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/CoastalHumanistsCCUrelay to register and donate. We will be so grateful for any contributions made and we hope to see you the night of the event!
Remember, it will last from 7pm on Friday, April 4th until 7am on Saturday April 5th.
If you know somebody who has battled with cancer in the past or who is still currently, we have luminaries and torches available through the American Cancer Society that you can purchase in honor of your loved ones. For more information and pricing on these, contact the club through their email at [email protected]. Thank you.

Of Saints and Sex: Gender, Religion, and Sexuality
Coastal Humanists sponsored a panel-style discussion on March 25th alongside the members of Women's and Gender Studies at Coastal Carolina University. The panel consisted of three faculty members (Dr. Barnes, Dr. Daoud, and Dr. Green) and two students (Mr. Ruiz, and Mr. Breland) and discussed a variety of issues associated with gender and sexuality and how religion - or lack thereof - plays a role in sexual expression. This was a 90-minute discussion that ran from 5:30pm until 7pm and it was held in the Johnson Auditorium in the Wall Building on Coastal Carolina's campus. We had a terrific turnout to the event and received only positive feedback from the audience. It was a pleasure working with everyone and we hope to host more events devoted to inquiry in the future. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to plan something with us!
Michael Werner discusses humanism at CCu
Michael Werner, the former president of the American Humanist Association visited Coastal Carolina University on February 3rd, 2014 to discuss "Ethical Dilemmas and the Life Stance of Humanism." He spoke at the Lackey Chapel on CCU's campus Monday afternoon at 4:30pm. Michael Werner is looking forward to returning to the Myrtle Beach area sometime in the future. His event was a success as he explained why solving ethical dilemmas are so challenging and what we should do when we are caught in a web of ethical and moral contradictions. He also discussed Humanism, how it works, and what it means to him. If you would like to know more about Werner and the discussion, see the full article below.
